Anti-collision lights are a specific requirement for small unmanned aircraft when they are operated at night. The purpose of these lights is to make the drone more visible to other pilots and to help prevent mid-air collisions. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations specify that during night operations, all unmanned aircraft must have anti-collision lights that can be seen from at least three statute miles, in addition to any other visibility requirements.

When flying during the day, while visibility is generally better due to natural light, anti-collision lights are not mandated, as other aircraft and observers can usually see the drone without additional illumination.
